  • Poker Etiquette is in some respects as important as the rules of the game. When you play poker in a brick-and-mortar card room or in an online poker room, there are rules of etiquette. There are sometimes repercussions to not adhering to those rules. While the typical home poker game doesn't have rules of etiquette posted on the wall when you walk in, it's still understood that there are some manners to observe.

This section of HomePoker.com focusses on the basic etiquette -or at least points of contention- that you should know ahead of a 'misunderstanding' in the home poker game. Use the links to the left to navigate through this section.

First, HomePoker.com's Joel the Scribe brings us up to speed on what you need to know for home poker etiquette. The first article, "10 Points of Home Poker Etiquette", was originally published in August, 2005. It was so well-received for its insight into an often-ignored topic, Joel followed it up with "11 More Points of Poker Etiquette" and "Does Poker Etiquette Matter in the Home Game?", leaving no stone unturned in this discussion.

The articles on GOOD FORM range as far back as the year 2000 and have been contributed by different HomePoker.com writers.

The articles on SANDBAGGING (or commonly referred to as check-raising) focus on a specific type of bet that, for many years, was outlawed in the home poker game. Many home game hosts felt that check-raising was too devious a move to be brought into friendly neighborhood games. Not HomePoker.com's Squeege, who contributed the two articles listed to the left as a means of broadening the opinions of these hosts into accepted check-raising as a necessary part of the poker game. Who knows? Ask Squeege, and he'll tell you he was at least partly responsible for today's general acceptance of check-raising in the home game.

Finally, a collection of four miscellaneous articles relating to different aspects of poker etiquette. Each one is a fun and informative read. By the time you're done, you'll have more manners than anybody else in your home poker game.
